Weekly Reading Home Learning
Guided reading information will be provided within the Blue Communication book. Within this book we will communicate with you which day your child will complete their weekly adult led guided reading session. These sessions focus on decoding of words, recalling sight words and on developing the children's understanding of text and stories. Children will have 2 reading focused activities each week. This will include a banded reading book and a Phonics International story linked to the phonics unit the child is working within. We will provide written information and guidance on the reading skill for the week in the blue communication books, so that you can support your child at home. Class teachers will communicate with you, regarding your child's reading, within the blue communication book. These books will be collected in once a week on your child's set guided reading day. Staff will then keep the book overnight and then return this, with changed reading materials, the following day. For example if your child reads on a Monday, we will collect the communication book in and then send it home on Tuesday.
Key words
As well as using our phonics to read words we also encourage the children to read a set of Key words (or high frequency words) by sight. These words are taught in weekly sets and children will be exposed to them across the unit in a range of ways. Children are encouraged to read key words by sight or memory recall. We will send home a set of the focus keywords for that half term via Google classroom.
