Week 1

What a brilliant first week back in Spring 2! As mathematicians, we have started learning our 4 and 8 times tables, through songs and learning the relationship between different products. As biologists, we are learning about plants this half-term. This week we set up an investigation which we will be observing over time to discover what a plant needs to stay alive. As writers, we have been looking at poetry this week. We analysed our WAGOLL poem ‘The River’ by Valerie Bloom and then created our own versions. We have learnt how to use onomatopoeias, similes and metaphors in our writing. At the end of the week, we shared our poems with the other team and some even performed their poem to the whole year group!

Week 2

Wow, what a busy week Year 3 have had! This week was National Careers Week. We started the week with a collective worship delivered by some parents who told us all about their jobs. On Thursday, we got to meet 7 different parents, hear about their careers and ask them questions. The children also made some careers plates where we thought about our skills and interests and discussed which jobs they would like to do when they’re older. We also went on two educational visits this week. First, we visited Morden Hall Park to investigate rivers linking to our geography learning. We will also be writing a recount of this trip in English. Then, at the end of the week, we visited Polka Theatre to watch ‘Who Let the Gods Out?’ which we absolutely loved. We even got to interview the author!

Week 3

Year 3 have worked super hard this week as it has been assessment week. They have all strived for accuracy and impressed their teachers so much! Well done Year 3! As well as this, we celebrated World Book Day at the start of the week by wearing our pyjamas to school. As biologists, we continued looking at the requirements a plant needs to stay alive and this week we set up an investigation to understand the use of a stem. We will be observing this overtime. As geographers, we learnt about rivers and the different features a river has. As artists, we continued to look at the work of Georgia O’Keefe and experimented with shade and texture, just like she did in her artwork.

Week 4

What a lovely week Year 3 have had! As writers, we have started a new writing topic where we will be writing a story inspired by ‘The Secret of Black Rock.’ The children have been using a range of different grammar techniques to up level their writing, like speech, complex sentences and expanded noun phrases. As artists, we created our own flower using pastels inspired by Georgia O’Keefe. We also celebrated red nose day by coming to school dressed in red.
