Admissions
As a maintained school, Hillcross follows the London Borough of Merton admissions policy. We hold Prospective Family Open Events. To find more information and to book a place at one of the events, please click here. These group events take approximately an hour and a half and include a tour of the main school. A shorter option is available for families who just want to visit the nursery and reception classrooms and will last approximately an hour.
Nursery
Most children start in our nursery at the beginning of the term after their third birthday. However, some families will be eligible to make use of the government's 'Rising 3' offer, where children start in our nursery as soon as they turn 3 years of age. We offer a completely flexible nursery provision for families, allowing them to pick any combination of sessions and days that suit their needs, subject to availability. We also recommend that you sign up for one of our open events (see link above). The application process for nursery places in the academic year 2026-2027 closes at Merton Admissions on 30th November.
Reception
All children must attend a Reception class in the September following their fourth birthday. The application process opens on 1st September the year before, and you must have submitted your online application by 15th January. For more information about our Reception classes, you can visit the Reception Year Group page and the 'EYFS' sections of our website. We also recommend that you sign up for one of our open events (see link above). Applications are made directly to Merton Admissions. Please note that having a place in our nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception.
In-Year Transfer
- For families moving into the area, under most circumstances, applications will only be processed once a child is living locally and places will only be allocated to children who can start immediately.
- If your child is already at a local school, and you wish to transfer to another school, please clearly outline your reasons for requesting the transfer on the In-Year Application Form.

Families are welcome to book onto one of the tours via the link above, or to contact the school to request a tour if there are none available. Once admissions have processed an application, we will arrange a home visit or a school visit with the parents/carers and the child/ren prior to agreeing the start date for the transfer.
Transfer to Secondary School
All children transfer from primary to secondary school at the end of Year 6. Applications can be made during the period 1 September to 31 October each year. Please visit the Merton Secondary Admissions webpage for detailed information regarding the application process and open events.
