Personal Items (inc Toys)

Children should not bring any personal belongings with them into school.  This includes any items or equipment they may use in lessons or clubs, such as pencils or tennis racquets.  In almost all cases, we have everything the children need to access all aspects of school life.

In line with our promotion of the love of reading, the only exception to this is if your child wishes to bring the book they are reading at home into school to read at playtime, lunchtime or in other free reading times.  However, if they choose to bring a book into school, we cannot accept any responsibility if they get lost or broken.

For children with additional needs, there may be exceptional circumstances from time to time when a reasonable adjustment can be made, but this must be discussed and agreed with a senior leader first. You can contact the school via info@hillcross.merton.sch.uk.

For younger children, if families feel their child needs a comfort toy to help them settle in when they first join school, this should be discussed at the home visit or Stay and Play session.  Typically, if agreed, these stay in their bags where they can access it if they need it – they usually don’t, just knowing it is there is enough!
