Flexible Registration Times
A smooth and stress-free start to the day is essential for the children’s wellbeing and development. In order to support parents who have more than one child in school and to ease congestion outside the school, we have a flexible system in the mornings where children can enter school and be registered at any time between 8.30 and 8.45am.
From year 2, parents can walk their child to an internal gate and let them walk to their classroom independently. We recommend that parents introduce this in steps according to their child's level of readiness for the additional responsibility, e.g. initially watch their child reach the classroom door, then walk their child to the internal gate, then leave their child at the external gate (although we don't recommend this for Year 2 children). There is a member of staff at each gate in the morning. They are positioned in order to stop children leaving the site without an adult, but they cannot accept responsibility for your child because they may be distracted dealing with other matters.
Communicating with school.
Each morning there will be a member of staff at the entrance doors to welcome your child into school and to take brief messages to pass on to the class teacher. We aim to pass these on immediately, but we cannot guarantee they will be able to do so because they may have to prioritise another child/matter. We therefore encourage families to email messages to info@hillcross so they can be passed on to the relevant staff member.
Late Arrivals
If you are late, you must enter via the Ashridge gate and report to the main school office to sign in. Your child will then be taken/sent to their class.
Please do not send your child into school through an open door or ask staff/children to open doors for you as they may not then be properly registered. It is vital all children are registered in the case of an emergency such as a fire.
Keeping Your Children Safe
Please make sure that your child/ren are supervised by an adult at all times in the morning and after school. If you need to drop at different ends of the school there is plenty of time within the 10-minute window to walk around the playground and deliver your child safely into school.
Access During the School Day
During the school day you can only access the school via the Ashridge Way entrance.
Total Hours
Total hours provided in a typical week for Reception to Year 6 is 32.5 hours.
