Summer 1

Week 1 & 2

The start of the Summer term brought lots of joy and excitement. We inspired our writers with a thought-provoking installation for the launch of our new topic. As biologists, the children had a wonderful opportunity to apply their previous knowledge by planting their own sunflower seeds. As busy mathematicians, they explored the composition of teen numbers, practised doubling numbers from 6–9, and began to learn about measurement. We also took advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoyed spending time reading together in the sunshine.

Week 3 and 4

We continued to explore measurement this week, with a focus on capacity through a very interactive and engaging lesson! As designers, we brought our ideas to life by using joining techniques to create movable puppets. The children also enjoyed observational drawing, creating some beautiful pictures inspired by a very special and unique ‘flamingo’ plant. Finally, we celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s birthday by creating cards and writing letters to thank him for everything he has done to help protect and preserve our planet.

Week 5

As mathematicians, we have been learning to count efficiently in groups of 2s, 5s and 10s. As musicians, we explored Carnival of the Animals (Aquarium music) and used scarves to represent the movement and feeling of the music. We finished the week as budding biologists, investigating the differences between garden plants and wild plants during an exciting trip to John Innes Park!
