Hillcross Primary School
Access to the school site
Please do not come onto the school premises before 8.25am unless you are dropping your child off at The Copse or bringing your child to a school club.
The school gates are programmed to open between 8.25 and 8.50am (both gates), 11.25am—12.30pm (Ashridge only) and 2.55pm—3.30pm (both gates).
The Monkleigh gate is programmed to open at 8.25am. Please wait to enter school premises until this time.
It has a security feature which means that if the gate is touched as it is opening, it will automatically stop for one minute. This has caused difficulties for people entering via this entrance from time to time. Please make sure that your child does not touch the gate as it opens to avoid delays and inconvenience to those trying to enter the school.
To help us keep the children safe, if you require access to the school premises outside of these hours please use the intercom at the Ashridge gate. Please be patient and do not buzz The Copse if it is not immediately answered. We appreciate that at times this may involve you having to wait to be let in but we will respond as soon as we can. In order to monitor who is gaining access to the school, the member of staff will ask you who you are and why you wish to enter the school site. Please make sure that if someone else follows you through the gate that you alert a member of staff to their presence if they do not go into The Copse or go straight to the front office with you.
A smooth and stress free start to the day is essential for the children’s wellbeing and development. In order to support parents who have more than one child in school and to ease congestion outside the school, we have a flexible system in the mornings where children can enter school and be registered between 8.35 and 8.45am.
Each morning there will be a member of staff on the door to welcome your child into school and to take any messages for the class teacher or school office. These will be passed on immediately and addressed by the relevant staff members at the earliest opportunity.
8.45 – 9.00am Children will be marked as ‘Late’ (register still open)
9.00am onwards Children will be marked as ‘Unauthorised Absence’ unless an explanation has been given.
12.30-12.40pm Registration Period for EYFS
12.45-12.55pm Registration Period for Years 1 & 2
1.00-1.10pm Registration Period for Years 3 & 4
1.15-1.25pm Registration Period for Years 5 & 6
If you are late you must report to the main school office and sign in the late book. Your child will then be taken/sent to their class.
Please do not send your child into school through an open door or ask staff/children to open doors for you as they may not then be properly registered. It is vital all children are registered in the case of an emergency such as a fire.
Please make sure that your child/ren are supervised by an adult at all times in the morning and after school. If you need to drop at different ends of the school there is plenty of time within the 10 minute window to walk around the playground and deliver your child safely into school.
