Spring Term 2
Week 6
We have ended the Spring term with our DT extravaganza! The children have followed the DT cycle and have designed, made and evaluated their own fire engines - with working axles! As mathematicians, we have been learning to identify and describe 2D and 3D shapes. As writers, we have completed our final piece of written work - a diary of the Great Fire of London.
Week 5
What an amazing week we have had! After practising all term, we finally performed our Great Fire of London play for our families. They were so impressed with our confident speaking, singing and dancing. As part of our science learning on materials, we created our own Great Fire of London using the houses we made for home learning to investigate how quickly the fire spread in 1666.
Week 4
This week has been a very busy one! We have written our own information texts answering frequently asked questions about the Great Fire of London, using a variety of conjunctions to join our ideas and used peer-marking feedback. As historians, we compared London in 1666 to London in the present day and identified similarities and differences. Within our RE lesson, we discussed the significance of the cross to Christians. We continued to work scientifically and investigated the impact of forces on different materials.
Week 3
We started the week dressed up as our favourite book characters for World Book Day. As mathematicians, we have been adding two-digit numbers to two-digit numbers using our knowledge of place value. As part of Science week, we have become physicists and worked scientifically to make predictions about the impact of different forces. We also visited the 'Hillcross gallery' to enjoy all the submissions for the art competitions.
Week 2
This week we have written acrostic poems describing The Great Fire of London. Within our history lesson, we sequenced the key events of the fire developing our understanding of timelines and chronology. As chemists, we identified and labelled common material within our classroom and considered their properties. To celebrate World Book Day, we also took part in a virtual quiz testing their literary knowledge.
Week 1
In our Science lessons, we are now chemists, and we are investigating the different properties of materials. This is also linked to the Great Fire of London history lessons and helping the children to consider what would be the best materials to use for a house. The Mini Musicians project is continuing to be a highlight of the week, and the children are really enjoying the musical instruments during their small group lessons.
