Autumn 2

Week 1

Wow! What a brilliant first week back this week has been. This week, we completed our Trailblazer ‘Amazing Animation!’ The children learnt all about the history of animation and created their own flipbook animation linked to anti-bullying. We also celebrated outdoor learning day when the children practised their times tables by writing them out on the playground. At the end of the week, we had a very special visit from Gladiator Steel, who spoke to us about the importance of staying healthy and taught us different habits we could use to develop a healthier lifestyle!

Week 2

We have had another super week in Year 3! This week, we celebrated anti-bullying week. On Monday, we came to school wearing odd socks to show we are standing up to bullying. Every day, we completed an activity linked to anti-bullying to help us learn more about why bullying is wrong. One of the activities was taking part in Now Press Play where the children took part in an immersive experience and wore headphones to listen to a story. We then had a discussion talking about the experience and spoke about what we would have done differently to stop the bullying. We also started our history learning all about the Romans this week, where the children learnt white hat facts through primary and secondary resources.

 Week 3

In PE this week, we continued with our dance topic and learnt a range of movements from the dance style ‘dance fit!’ As physicists, we completed an investigation to discover which materials are reflective. We came to the conclusion that shiny, smooth materials are reflective but dark, dull materials are not. As musicians, we used the xylophones to create an ABCDE melody which we will be using throughout the half-term to compose our own piece of music inspired by the Romans.

Week 4

Year 3 have had a very busy week this week and worked extremely hard! The children have blown all the adults away with their commitment to their learning and hard work as they completed their assessment week. In addition to this, we developed our ABCDE melodies in music and added a drone note to our melodies which links to Roman music too. The children also completed their independent writing and wrote their own narrative based on Disney Pixar’s ‘The Blue Umbrella.’

Week 5

Year 3 continued with their dance topic in PE this week and both teams came together to do a dance battle. After some strong competition, Team Elder were victorious! In English, we started looking at subordinate clauses which will help us in our new writing unit where we will be making information texts about The Romans. In science, we continued investigating light and this week we answered the question ‘How do shadows form?’
