If my child has Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a neurological difference and can have a significant impact during education, in the workplace and in everyday life. As each person is unique, so is everyone's experience of dyslexia. It can range from mild to severe, and it can co-occur with other specific learning difficulties. It usually runs in families and is a life-long condition. Ten percent of the population are believed to be dyslexic, but it is still often poorly understood. With the right support, the strengths and talents of dyslexic people can really shine.

Hillcross is a Dyslexic friendly school, meaning staff have completed training, delivered by the Merton Learning, Language and Behavioural team (LBL) in which staff explored the current working definition of dyslexia and the difficulties and challenges children with dyslexia may experience in the classroom. Since the training, we have implemented a variety of inclusive strategies to support children with dyslexia in the classroom.
