Asthma Inhalers

Children who suffer from asthma should have two inhalers in school.  It is the parent/carers responsibility to inform the school of the child’s condition and to ensure that two inhalers are in school.  If the child attends Breakfast Club, After School Club or Holiday Club, they will need an additional inhaler for this provision too.  Parents/carers must complete the necessary paperwork to enable the inhaler to be administered. Support can be given to complete paperwork, if required.

Inhalers belonging to pupils are kept in the classrooms.  These are kept in the team medical boxes and children use them under supervision.  Children will know where their medicines are and be able to access them immediately if required.

All medication will be sent home at the end of each academic year and should be returned at the beginning of the next.  Parents hold responsibility for ensuring that the medication has not exceeded its expiry date.

All staff are trained annually on how to administer an Inhaler.
