Spring 2 - Natural Disasters
Week 4:
We’ve continued learning about volcanoes and have been busy preparing for our Hokusai paintings, focusing on tone and texture. The children had a great time experimenting with watercolours, oil pastels, and salt to create different effects. In Music, we composed pieces using various dynamics, and in Science, we looked at how temperature affects states of matter. We also explored R.E. by learning about festivals like Diwali and Easter.

Week 3:
As scientists, we have also explored the different states of matter, understanding the key differences between solids, liquids, and gases. In RE, we have been learning about different festivals and why people celebrate them; it was wonderful to hear the children share their own traditions and how they celebrate with their families. In PE, we have learnt about passing and moving in football. As artists, we have researched a famous artist, Hokiasui, and created an information text to share the white hat facts we learnt.

Week 2:
This week, the children excelled in their swimming and have all shown great progress. In English, we have completed our Haiku poems and typed them up and in maths, we also worked on our maths fluency. This includes skills like knowing: times tables and division facts, adding and subtracting, finding fractions of an amount like ⅖ of 25. As a school, we also celebrated National Careers Week, and had a wonderful time listening to parents from our community discussing their jobs.

Week 1:
This week, we have been working incredibly hard with our swimming – we have already made great progress. When we were not swimming, we explored Haiku poems and started to categorise words depending on the number of syllables they have (e.g. dan-ger-ous has three syllables), ready to write our own Haikus about natural disasters. As mathematics, we have been looking at how to multiply and divide a whole number by 10. We have also started our new reading book, ‘The Firework-Maker's Daughter’ by Philip Pullman. We saw this at the theatre last term, so it will be an interesting comparison.
