Year Group 4

Welcome to Year 4

Curriculum Information

Key Information

PE

Children should bring a pair of plimsolls or indoor trainers into school in their PE bag.  These will be kept in school for the whole term, unless the shoes become too small and we will send them home earlier.

Year 4 PE days are:

  • Tuesday and Friday

Children will need to wear their full PE Kit to school on these days and bring their school shoes (and a change of socks in case they get muddy) with them in a plastic carrier bag.  This is so that if they get muddy they can change into their school shoes without walking mud throughout the school.  Please be mindful of the weather and choose the most appropriate PE kit (tracksuit bottoms in winter and shorts in summer).  Children will wear their PE kits home.

Water Bottles & Snacks

Children must bring a water bottle to school because water fountains will not be available for children to use whilst safety measures are in place.  Hillcross School water bottles are compulsory.  Children should have a water bottle with a lid that matches their house colour.  These should contain water only.

School water bottles will be available for purchase via Parentmail. A payment item has been set for all families if you need to purchase a bottle, please indicate the quantity you require and which house your child/ren are in. The cost of a water bottle is £1.50 and each additional lid is 50p.

Children will be able to bring healthy fruit/vegetable snacks into school but these must be in either a plastic container or in plastic/paper bags to minimise the risk of cross contamination.

Pencil Cases

Children are not to bring their own pencil case into school from home - all equipment your child requires for their learning will be provided by the school.

Home Learning

This will be set on Google classroom.  However, when your children complete learning on paper, please encourage your child to follow our Presentation Policy and to ensure they use a neat cursive script.

Start & End of the School Day

Due to the safety measures in place as a result of COVID-19, procedures for the arrival and collection of children from school have been amended.  Please refer to the Parental Guidance on the COVID-19 page of the website which can be found on the Noticeboard drop down menu.

Reading Pledge

In Year 4, children will be given a reading book every week which will stay in class and be read on a daily basis in support of the Hillcross Reading Pledge. Please ensure your child is reading at home for at least 10 minutes a day and recording it in their communication books.

Get Involved!

There are numerous opportunities for you to join in with the life of the school in the following ways:

  • Education Workshops (Autumn 1)
  • Class Celebration (Autumn 2);
  • Accompanying School Trips (TBC);
  • Year Group Performance (Spring 2);
  • Sports Day (Summer 1)
  • PTA & Volunteering in School

We will do our best to find alternative ways to enable parental involvement whilst applying the safety measures required to minimise the risks associated with COVID-19 .

Safeguarding

Hillcross is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment.  This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and supporting procedures in place.  All staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) must ensure that they are aware of these procedures.  Parents and carers are welcome to read the policy on request.

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are:

  • Lisa Francis – Headteacher
  • Helen Beckett – Deputy Headteacher
  • Lee Christy - Assistant Headteacher
  • Tanja Doig – Assistant Headteacher
