Autumn 2 - Journey Over Europe

Week 6:

As biologists, we have used classification keys to classify different living things. As mathematicians, we have investigated the relationship between the three and six times tables. In English, we have used our geography knowledge to write information texts about our chosen European countries, focusing on human and physical features. In RE, we have explored and compared different accounts of Jesus' birth.

Week 5:

This week, we have typed up our own setting description based on an island we designed. As designers, we explored different structures and experimented with how to strengthen structures, before we design our greenhouses next week. As geographers, we have researched using chromebooks different human and physical features of Iceland, Spain and Austria. In RE, we have explored the meaning of temptation and considered how the easy path is not always the right path.

Week 4:

In DT, we have researched a range of greenhouses and explored the different structures used in their designs. In PE, we have learnt a variety of Charleston dance moves and used linking movements to create a paired dance routine. As scientists, we have classified and grouped plants, identifying which are flowering and which are non-flowering. In maths, we have started to explore our three times tables, noticing that we can work out adjacent times table facts by adding or subtracting three each time.

Week 3:

As musicians, we have learnt about syncopated rhythms (playing on the offbeat) and worked in pairs to create our own. In English, we have used figurative language, including expanded noun phrases, similes, and metaphors, to describe an island. As geographers, we have explored the country Iceland, investigating its human and physical features.

Week 2:

To launch our topic ‘Journey Over Europe’, we have used atlases to locate different countries and their capital cities. As scientists, we have used our outdoor learning space to find different living things and made careful observational drawings. In maths, we have explored different 2D shapes and learnt their names according to the number of sides they have. We have also introduced the concept of perimeter as the distance around the outside of a 2D shape.

Week 1:

This week, our adventure took flight! We launched our exciting trailblazer, ‘Unlocking the Wonders of the World,’ by taking a virtual flight to explore the Seven Wonders across the globe. As geographers, we have applied our Year 3 learning of lines of longitude and latitude to locate each wonder on the map. As readers, we became fact-finders, using our retrieval skills to uncover fascinating white hat facts about The Colosseum, The Great Wall of China, and the Taj Mahal. To wrap up our travels, we composed postcards to Lisa Francis from our chosen Wonder of the World — packed with expanded noun phrases and imaginative details to bring each destination to life! What an incredible journey of discovery it’s been!
