Summer 1

Week 4

Cooking!

This week, we have been focusing on cooking within our topic of 'I Can Cook!' and the children have used their cooking skills to make their very own pitta pizzas! They have enjoyed spreading the tomato sauce on the pittas, choosing their favourite vegetable toppings and tasting their delicious creations.

Changes

As well as using our cooking skills, the children have been observing the changes that they can see during this time. For example, they could identify the changes seen when watching the cheese melt and bread change colour! Outside, we have also been exploring changes to ice and chocolate (with lots of adult supervision!). They thoroughly enjoyed using the magnifying glasses and talking in depth about the melting they were observing.

Week 3

Baking!

This week's focus within our topic of 'I Can Cook!' has been on baking and the children have loved creating their own little banana bread muffins! They have had a number of hands-on experiences, sequencing images of baking banana bread and learning our heavy and light whilst exploring the scales. They have also had the opportunity to work in groups to peel, mash, mix, pour and scoop whilst making their own batch of banana bread before the best bit; the taste test!

Sports Day Practise!

We have begun our sports day run-through in our weekly PE sessions and the children are demonstrating their ever-improving confidence and skills in each of the activities. Each week, we have been setting out a different one of our Sports Day challenges in the outdoor environment for the children to work on their skills in this area, and they have loved working on their under and over arm throwing with the bean bag toss!

Week 2

Shopping!

This week, our focus has been on shopping! The children loved exploring the tills and using money and practising their Big Art skills by drawing a basket. They've had a lovely time looking at logos and recalling the names of the supermarkets they have been to and have even written their very own lists using their YELs and drawing on their phonics skills to remember the initial phoneme in each item.

Planting and Growing

We were also fortunate enough to have a visit from Ted's mum, Jo, who came and helped us with some planting this week! We are looking forward to watching the range of beautiful flowers and some tomatoes grow and flourish. We've had a think about the process that food goes through to get to the shops and then into our fridges, linking like a spider back to our previous topic of farms!
