Year Group 5

Welcome to Year 5

Key Information

PE

Year 5 PE days are Tuesday and Friday.

Children will need to wear their full Hillcross PE Kit to school on these days and bring their school shoes (and a change of socks in case they get muddy) with them in a carrier bag. This is so that if they get muddy they can change into their school shoes without walking mud throughout the school. Please be mindful of the weather and choose the most appropriate PE kit (tracksuit bottoms in winter and shorts in summer).  Stud earrings and plain watches, if worn, must be removed for all PE lessons and sports activities.

Children wear their house colour T-Shirt for all PE lessons. Round neck coloured t-shirts can be bought from the school uniform shop or can be sourced elsewhere.  When purchasing your child’s t-shirt, they should be round necked, completely plain and as close as possible to the shade of colour shown on the school uniform page.

Children should bring a pair of plimsolls or indoor trainers into school in their PE bag.  These will be kept in school for the whole term, unless the shoes become too small, and we will send them home earlier.

Water Bottles & Snacks

Children must bring a water bottle to school to ensure they keep hydrated throughout the day. Families can either source their own water bottle in their child’s house colour, or purchase one from the schoolWater bottles must be plain, transparent, in your child's house colour and clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Hillcross water bottles (which are sustainably sourced) are available to purchase via Parentmail and have a lid corresponding to your child's house colour.  A payment item has been set up on Parentmail for all families.  When requesting a bottle, please indicate the quantity you require and which house your child/ren are in.

Children will be able to bring healthy fruit/vegetable snacks into school, but these must be in either a plastic container or in plastic/paper bags to minimise the risk of cross-contamination.

Mobile Phones

Only children in year five or six who walk to and from school on their own may bring in a mobile phone. Once on the school premises they must be turned off and be handed in to the class teacher who will keep them locked away until the end of the day.

Pencil Cases

Children are not to bring their own pencil case into school from home - all equipment your child requires for their learning will be provided by the school.

Home Learning

This will be set on Google Classroom on a Friday and must be 'turned in' on a Wednesday.  Please click the tab on the right-hand side of this page, refer to our Home Learning Policy and/or Google Classroom for more information.

Start & End of the School Day

Children will be escorted down to the back playground at 3pm. Children who have permission to walk home alone will be dismissed from the playground. Children who are collected will remain with the teacher until the appropriate adult comes to collect them.

If a different adult is collecting your child please inform the school by e-mailing info@hillcross.merton.co.uk.

Year 5 parents considering allowing their children to walk home from school unaccompanied, must complete a form and permission for this must be granted by the Headteacher. Please click here to complete the online form /virtual-office/forms/permission-to-walk-home-year-5-and-6),
